False E-gold security feature
By acca | February 5, 2008
There are lots of emails circulating on internet made by different scammers, trying to steel your passwords, data, or something else. Lots of them attack Egold or Paypal users. If you have E-gold or Paypal account, you are probably target for them. I have found that kind of scam email in my inbox yesterday. It was an email having @e-gold in FROM field, but it wasn’t from Egold actually. Scammers can do that trick, you know. In message body, suposely from Egold, there was an announce. They say
We happily introduce to you the newest e-gold security feature - secret key file. If secret key file is installed on your computer, access to your account from other computers will be denied. This new feature will prevent unauthorized logins to e-gold accounts. Secret key file is necessary to protect your account and to reduce the instance of unauthorized funds transfers in our system.
Real Egold didn’t implement that feature, of course. In following text, there is a link you have to click to go pick-up that file. But, when you move your mouse above link, or copy link, you will see actual website where link leads is http://www.e-gold.com-0.in/. Now you see actual site is com-0.in, Indian website, and E-gold is just subdomain. Not to mention that E-gold announced zillion times that their users must not click in any mails. Knowing that, those scammers put this at the end of mail, too:
*****************************************************
For your security, never access the e-gold website
via hypertext links in e-mail!
*****************************************************
But link is above that, so some newcomers can click before reading that.
So, important is – NEVER click on any link in mails from Egold, Paypal, Alertpay or whatever. If you think it’s important to log into your account, type E-gold.com directly into your browser and than log into your account.
