Phenomenon John Chow

I looked at details about earning and traffic for John Chow blog in December and I just can not believe. The man made that big buzz there is more and more people read his blog. Advertisers are interested for ads on John Chow blog, paid posting, etc. In December, he earned a little more than 25.000 US dollars. About $10.000 only from direct ad sales. In whole year, 2007, his blog made about 180.305 dollars. In December, Chow’s blog had 244.164 page views and 130.587 unique visits. No matter more and more people talk about his stupid posts like one about John Chow eating ribs in some restaurant, his review of some sushi bar or about affiliate program for herbal products, just one of the million similar. And all three in last ten days. And that’s all the time picture. And blog should be about internet earnings, as I get it.
I look at John’s posts, rarely I read whole post. But I am his RSS subscriber, too. And I am one of his unique visitors for almost every post. Question is, how many real blog readers does John Chow have? How many people actually reads his blog regularly? I watched video where Chow explained on some TV show how he succeed. He had few Digg first pages at one month, commented regularly on many related blogs, and that kind of thing. I doubt that was only thing made that kind of buzz. On some blog I even read that some guy thinks John Chow become famous because of his name. Like, John is pure American name and Chow sounds exotic and that liked American readers. I doubt that, too. And still don’t get John Chow’s buzz. What’s the secret?
